Blacksburg Etymology - Where Did Blacksburg Get Its Name? 

In 1798, Blacksburg, Virginia was founded by a petition made by William Black to establish a town at the state legislature. Blacksburg was founded on the 38.75-acre tract that was laid out by Black. In honour of the founder William Black, Blacksburg was named after him.
