Brisbane is one of the oldest cities in Australia and the third most populous one. This metropolitan area is situated on the banks of Brisbane River, about 9 miles from its mouth at Moreton Bay. It is the longest river in South East Queensland, dammed by the Wivenhoe Dam, forming Lake Wivenhoe; the main water supply for Brisbane. Paradoxically, the city’s nickname is ‘Bris Vegas,’ which is attributed to the city’s nightlife, broadening music venues and the central business district. It's a great city for students offering them a variety of student homes of all types to choose from near universities.

Brisbane has dry moderately-warm winters and hot humid summers; the overall climate is humid subtropical.

the city is full of popular student attractions and activities that you can enjoy with friends during your free time. Brisbanites privilege from having The Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), housing one of the most internationally-popular pieces of modern art. It is located next to the State Library of Queensland and the Queensland Art Gallery. Brisbane was nominated as one of the Top 5 International Music Hotspots by Billboard in 2007, along with Beijing, Berlin, Birmingham and Marseille. In July/August, the Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) is held at various venues across the city, featuring new films and retrospectives by domestic and international filmmakers on top of seminars and awards. There is also the River Festival that is held every September at South Bank Parklands and other major cultural events.

Brisbane has numerous universities, such as Queensland University of Technology, the University of Queensland (UQ) and Griffith University. Other universities’ campuses are based in Brisbane, like the Australian Catholic University, Central Queensland University, James Cook University, and University of Southern Queensland. Brisbane is also home to the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts. The Brisbane North Institute of TAFE, the Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE, and the Southbank Institute of TAFE are the three TAFE colleges in the city.

Brisbane has a variety of transport means from taxis and buses to ferries. There is a free bus service, like The City Loop and other paid ones: Spring Hill Loop. Brisbane’s ferries are known as the CityCats and they are considered one of the most entertaining ways of exploring the city; there are the free CityHopper ferry service and the CityFerry services as well. The city’s swift train network encompasses the Greater Brisbane region, giving direct access to the city, neighbourhood areas, and the outer suburbs.
