Student accommodation in Colchester

Located in the county of Essex, Colchester is a main historic town in the UK; it is only an hour by train from London. It's a well-known university town with various student residences available to choose from close to universities. The city's history dates back to the Roman Empire. It is famous for various old attractions, including Colchester Castle, Colchester Medival Gates, Camulodunum, and Layer Marney Tower. Colchester Castle is the largest Norman castle in Europe. It was built as a centre of the first Roman capital of Britain and currently holds one of the best museums in Europe with more than 2500 years of history.

Colchester is just a few minutes away from the Wivenhoe Park Campus of the University of Essex, the town's main university. It is ranked among the top 20 universities in terms of student satisfaction with more than 85% of the students satisfied with the courses they study. Wivenhoe Park Campus, Southend-on-Sea Campus, and Colchester Campus are the three main campuses of the university with a combined number of 14,000 students attending them yearly.

A rich history is not the only thing you'll find in Colchester. It has affordable student activities ranging from annual festivals and events to explore. The Flower Festival in Mount Bures is one of the most iconic festivals in the town. It includes various open-air flower viewing platforms, as well as archery booths and jogging activities. The Colchester Food and Drink Festival at Castle Park is another famous festival there. It is held every June and includes over 100 different stalls with local and international food and drinks. It has a friendly atmosphere, perfect for students. The tickets for the festival are affordable.

The town has good transportation links for easy connections. There are three main train stations: Colchester, Colchester Town, and Hythe stations. These stations connect the university with everything in town and all have bus stops right outside them. Cycling lovers can move around the town using the map provided by Essex Council or they can visit the Cycle Colchester website to connect with fellow cyclers and attend cycling events. Colchester is a good place to walk around as well, thanks to the existence of various picturesque gardens and green grounds.
