Ottawa Etymology - Where Does the Name Ottawa Come From? 

The city was first named “Bytown” then its name was changed to Ottawa in 1854. The name Ottawa was chosen about the Ottawa River, the name of which is derived from the Algonquin Odawa, meaning "to trade".

As for the summers, they are sunny, warm, and sometimes humid, lasting for around 3-4 months from late May to late September with average temperatures of 80°F and low of 61°F. July is the hottest month with an average temperature of 26.6 °C (80 °F), while January is the coldest month with an average temperature of −14.4 °C (6.1 °F). 

What to Pack and Ottawa Local Timing

If visiting Ottawa during the winter months, make sure you pack all your sweaters and a heavy coat with rain boots to brace yourself. However, if you’re visiting the city during the summer season, just pack the comfiest, lightest clothes you can find. UTC−05:00 (EST) is Ottawa’s local time zone and UTC−04:00 (EDT) is the city’s time zone in the summer. Daylight Saving Time starts on 14 March (1 hour forward) and ends on 7 November (1 hour backwards).
