Mander Portman Woodward is a group of British independent schools, with branches in London, Birmingham and Cambridge. With about 70% British and 30% international students, the colleges are cosmopolitan, resulting in a diverse blend of cultures and customs.
MPW Birmingham offers A-level courses, GCSE courses, retakes for both A level and GCSE, and transfers at the end of Year 12 for full-time students. However, it offers Easter Revision and Supplementary Tuition, 1:1 twilight, Saturday morning or holiday sessions for students at other schools and colleges.
A-level courses are offered in a variety of subjects: Accounting; Art, Craft, and Design; Biology; Business; Chemistry; Chinese; Computer Science; Digital Photography; Economics; English Language and Literature; English Literature; Film Studies; French; Further Mathematics; Geography; German; Government and Politics; History; Law; Mathematics; Media Studies; Physics; Psychology; Religious Studies; Sociology; Spanish; Extended Project Qualification.
GCSE courses’ subjects include Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, English Language, English Literature, French, History, Mathematics, Photography, Physics, Religious Studies, Spanish, Retakes, and Transfers at the end of year 12.
The College also provides a programme of support for its full-time students with learning difficulties such as dyspraxia, dyslexia, processing speed problems, and working-memory problems. Each student can receive weekly input and assistance from the college’s Director of Teaching and Learning.
The college’s programmes of teaching and learning are supported by a wide range of modern facilities and resources such as excellent science laboratories, classrooms equipped for screen-based learning, and two IT suites.
The college’s Study Centre includes networked multimedia computers in the Information Technology suites, offering broadband Internet access, colour printing, and scanning. Computers are also available throughout the day.
There’s also a student common room that provides drinks and snacks, access to networked computers, and is an area of relaxation for students. It has an electronic message board to update students on key developments.
The college organizes year-round social and physical activities to provide students with a fun and relaxed environment.
MPW’s international students enjoy a range of Mander Portman Woodward - Birmingham student accommodation. A large number of them are referred to as accommodation managed by Kensington Student Services (KSS) which is an independent company, wholly owned by the Mander Portman Woodward group.
KSS is a specialist accommodation agency that provides and arranges Mander Portman Woodward - Birmingham student accommodation for international sixth-form students aged 16 years and over studying in Birmingham, London, and Cambridge. The student accommodation offered by KSS has fully-supervised student residence, homestay accommodation, or if they are older and more independent, in apartments.
The student residence is fully-supervised with live-in House Parents, located within walking distance to the college, and has single rooms, some with en-suite facilities. Homestay accommodation has morning and evening meals provided. Studio apartments and multiple occupancies are also available depending on preference.
The University of Birmingham is just 2-minutes away, University College Birmingham is located 7-minutes away from the college, and Aston University is 9-minutes away.
Almost 1,200 students study at Mander Portman’s three colleges, of which a third are international students.
