Departments and Divisions

The university college consists of two major schools, the School of Business, Tourism and Creative Industries and School of Health, Sport and Food. Each school has various departments to specialize in a certain subject or skill. The School of Business, Tourism and Creative Industries include The Department of Business, Marketing and Finance, Department of Hospitality and Tourism, and Department of Creative Services. At the Department of Business, Marketing and Finance, you can study a Higher Education Diploma (Computer Science), Business and Finance Level 3 National Foundation/National Extended Diploma, Information and Creative Technology, and more. The Department of Hospitality and Tourism includes courses like Cabin Crew and Airport Operations Level, Tourism, Aviation, Events and Hospitality, and more. The School of Health, Sport and Food has 5 departments, they are Sport and Nutrition, Education, Social Care, Health, and the Birmingham College of Food. The Sport and Nutrition department has courses like Boxing Education, Fitness and Personal Training, and more. Education courses include Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator), Early Years Practitioner, and T-level in Education and Childcare Level 3. In the department of Social Care, you can study Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship, Children, Young People and Families Practitioner, and more. The Health department includes courses like Physiotherapy Degree Apprenticeship BSc (Hons), Access to Higher Education Diploma (Social Science and Health), and more. Students looking to receive postgraduate education in specialized areas are offered a range of postgraduate degrees (MA, MSc, diploma/certificate, pre-masters). They are available for marketing management, culinary arts, education, tourism, hospitality, youth work and business. Most of these degrees are available both part-time and full-time and are accredited by the University of Birmingham. Some University College Birmingham postgraduate degrees are Aviation Management MSc / PGDip, Educational Leadership MA / PGDip, Gastronomy and Food Sustainability MSc / PGDip, Finance and Accounting MSc / PGDip, and more.

Practical, vocational college courses are offered at the university college to prepare students for the practical professional world. Facilities at the university college campuses are a mix of academic and social facilities that ensure students are comfortable on campus and make the most of their learning experience. Academic facilities include library services with books, newspapers, e-books, electronic journals, and study spaces with computers and Wi-Fi access. There are also separate learning spaces also with computers and Wi-Fi, specialized computer facilities with IT support, and a Centre for Academic Skills and English. There is University College Birmingham on-campus accommodation offered for all students in The Maltings university hall. It’s located a 15-minute walk from campus in the heart of Birmingham. You can choose from a range of room types including single rooms, en-suite rooms, and twin rooms. Rooms are fully furnished and have Wi-Fi access and flats usually house six to nine students. Amenities include on-site parking, bike storage, security, and communal areas such as a sports hall, gym and landscaped gardens. Prices include Wi-Fi, heating, lighting, and contents insurance.
