Why Study at UCL School of Pharmacy

The UCL School of Pharmacy (formerly The School of Pharmacy, University of London) is part of University College London's Faculty of Life Sciences and is located in Bloomsbury, central London. It has been teaching pharmacists for over 175 years.

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain established the College of the Pharmaceutical Society in 1842. When it broke away from the Pharmaceutical Society in 1949 and became a constituent college of the University of London, it was renamed The School of Pharmacy. In 1952, the School was granted a royal charter, and in January 2012, it merged with UCL.

The UCL School of Pharmacy is regarded as one of the best pharmacy schools in the United Kingdom. It has over 179 years of experience and tradition as the oldest School, having been founded by the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1842. Throughout that time, it has maintained its identity as a specialist institution dedicated to teaching and research in pharmacy and the pharmaceutical sciences. QS Rankings currently ranks the UCL School of Pharmacy 7th in the world (Pharmacy and Pharmacology 2021) and 5th in the Shanghai Ranking (Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science).

Departments and Divisions

UCL School of  Pharmacy offers an undergraduate MPharm degree programme which was fully re-accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) in 2019. It integrates pharmaceutical science into the practice of clinical pharmacy. A  Master of Pharmacy with Integrated Pre-registration Training (MPharm) is also available for undergraduate students.

Postgraduate Research is offered in the MPhil programme which allows students the opportunity to participate in world-leading research at the School of Pharmacy. UCL School of Pharmacy was recognized as providing a world-class research environment, being 100% 4* rated in the recent 2014 REF.

The school has a variety of Master's programmes that reflect the school's research and academic expertise in drug discovery, drug delivery, drug targets, drug action, clinical pharmacy, and medicine use.

UCL School of Pharmacy also offers a variety of part-time taught postgraduate programmes designed specifically for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians working in clinical settings.

The research departments at UCL School of Pharmacy include The Research Department of Pharmaceutical and Biological Chemistry, The Research Department of Pharmacology, The Research Department of Pharmaceutics, and The Research Department of Practice and Policy (RDPP).
