University College London History:
University College London (UCL) is the first university in London to accept women equally with men. It was founded to welcome students no matter their religion or race; it was the first secular university in England. UCL was established to modernise English education and society in 1826. The architect William Wilkins, who designed the National Gallery building in Trafalgar Square, also designed the UCL main building.
