The current university was formerly known as Bath College of Higher Education and was formed by Bath College of Domestic Science and Bath Teacher Training College in 1975. In 1983, the Bath Academy of Art was also integrated into the two other colleges. In 1992, the university gained its degree and adopted the Bath Spa College name in 1997.
