Why Study at the University of Bristol
The University of Bristol was one of the first higher education institutions in the UK to welcome male and female students on an equal basis. It was previously known as the University College, Bristol. It opened its doors to students in 1876 in a leasehold at 32 Park Row.
Alfred Marshall laid the college’s groundwork with only two professors and five lecturers teaching 15 sessions a day, as well as during the evening. He worked as the Principal till 1881, teaching evening classes and managing the college, while his wife, Mary Paley, taught the morning classes.
