It is a 16th-century fortress that was built during the reign of King Felipe II, with the goal of providing defence against invasions by the French army.

Transportation in Pamplona:

Pamplona is a medium-sized city with approximately 200,000 inhabitants, covering 24 square kilometres. The easiest way to get around the city is on foot. However, there is a 24-hour taxi service available, with different official stops dotted around the city. Another option is cycling, as Pamplona boasts over 60 kilometres of cycle paths. The least recommended is by car, as traffic is restricted in the city centre. A transit bus is also available as the city has an urban bus service. These buses are locally known as the "Villavesas".
