Sanjay Gandhi initiated the creation of this city under the UP Industrial Area Development Act in 1976.
The city is about 25 km away from southeast New Delhi. It is bounded to the east and northeast by Delhi, to the west and southwest by the Yamuna River and to the southeast, east and northeast by the Hindon River. The climate is typically dry throughout the year since it rarely rains. In winters, it is chilly and harsh due to the Himalayan cold waves. The coldest month in the year is January, with an average temperature of 14.4 °C (57.9 °F). It has a dense fog that covers the city and reduces visibility. So, it is recommended to wear heavy clothes and jackets and limit your time outside. However, the warmest month in Noida is June, with an average temperature of 34.2 °C (93.6 °F).
Noida has a lot of beautiful destinations and landscapes to visit. Okhla Bird Sanctuary is a haven to over 300 bird species, some of which are migratory birds. It is also known for its fascinating large lake between Okhla village to the west and Gautam Budh Nagar to the east, created after building a dam across the river. The sanctuary is situated at the entrance of Noida, Gautam Budh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
If you are a nature enthusiast, Noida's Botanical Garden is another fascinating destination there with a vast space of lush green gardens and around 7500 special and endangered plants and flowers. It has primitive plants called Psilotum Nudum, which means “Bare Naked” in Latin because it lacks the organs that most plant species have. The garden is divided into 10 sections; one of which is the “Medicinal Plants” section. Other sections include the fruit section with mango, lemon, pomegranate and much more and the woodland section with many impressive trees. The garden is a good place to spend some time with your flatmates to relax and get some exercises in the mornings or the evenings.
