Why Study at Columbia University?

Columbia University is a private Ivy League research university in New York City. Columbia University, founded in 1754 as King's College on the grounds of Trinity Church in Manhattan, is the oldest institution of higher learning in New York and the fifth-oldest in the United States and is regarded as one of the most prestigious schools in the world. It is one of nine colonial colleges founded before the Declaration of Independence, seven of which are Ivy League institutions. Columbia is one of the world's top universities.

Columbia was founded by royal charter under George II of the United Kingdom. Following the American Revolution, it was renamed Columbia College and placed under a private board of trustees led by former students Alexander Hamilton and John Jay in 1787. The campus was relocated to its current location in Morningside Heights in 1896 and renamed Columbia University.

Columbia University has 21 schools, 120 academic departments, and 20 colleges, offering over 500 courses at all levels of study. Popular study areas include business, engineering, computer science, humanities, medicine, etc. Drama and Theatre Arts, Dance, Film and Media Studies, Music, and Visual Arts are popular and creative subjects.

Columbia University's acceptance rate for Fall 2021 admissions was 4%. Columbia University received 63,318 applications for undergraduate admissions in 2021, of which only 2,577 were given an offer letter, but only 1,730 accepted the offer letter and enrolled. The acceptance rate at Columbia University has decreased by 2% since 2020 and 1% since 2019 admissions, with higher academic qualification standards resulting in tougher competition and, as a result, lower selection rates.

According to enrolment statistics for 2021-22, Columbia University enrolled approximately 18,000 international students and scholars from 150 countries. Columbia University has enrolled 12,785 students for the Fall 2021 semester. Optional Practical Experience (OPT).
