Why Study at Oxford Brookes University 

Oxford Brookes University is a public research university located in Headington, Oxford, UK. It was previously founded and known as Oxford School of Art in 1865 before it received its university status in 1992 through the Further and Higher Education Act. Oxford Brookes won the prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 20021 for its MSc course in Development Practice, a pioneering course run by the Centre for Development and Emergency Practice for humanitarian professionals who work with victims of war, disaster, and urban poverty around the world. 

The university was named the UK’s best post-1992 university for the tenth year running according to The Sunday Times’ University Guide 2010. It was also named the world's top 200 international universities in 2016 according to the Times Higher Education. The university became the number one rowing university in the UK after winning a record haul of medals at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Regatta 2017 as it won 41 Gold medals, 51 Silver medals, and 31 Bronze medals. Oxford Brookes was the only UK university in the top 50 QS ranking of institutions under 50 years old according to the QS World University Rankings Top 50 Under 50 2018. 

Departments and Divisions

The four main faculties of Oxford Brookes are Oxford Brookes Business School, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Faculty of Technology, Design, and Environment. Each faculty has a number of different schools and departments within. Oxford Brookes Business School includes Oxford Brookes Business School and Oxford School of Hospitality Management. The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences includes the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences, the Department of Psychology, Health, and Professional Development, the Department of Sport, Health Sciences, and Social Work, and the Oxford School of Nursing and Midwifery. 

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences includes the School of Education, the School of English and Modern Languages, the School of History, Philosophy, and Culture, the School of Law, the School of Social Sciences, and the Institute of Public Care. The Faculty of Technology, Design, and Environment includes the School of Architecture, the School of Arts, the School of the Built Environment, the School of Engineering, Computing, and Mathematics, and the School of Ethical AL. 

The university offers postgraduate courses like Acute Care of the Older Person with Frailty PGCert, Cardiorespiratory Practice, Environmental Impact Assessment and Management MSc, International Business and Marketing Management MSc, Management in Health and Social Care MSc, PGDip, PGCert, and many more. A number of professional/short courses are also available in many subject areas such as Architecture, Art and Design, Built Environment, Business and Management, Coaching and Mentoring, Computing Skills, Engineering and Motorsport, Health and Social Care, and more.

Foundation Courses are available for students who need to reach the entry-level requirements needed for a degree level study; the courses available are Art and Design Foundation, Built Environment Foundation, Computing Foundation, Engineering Foundation, Foundation in Business, Foundation in Humanities, Foundation in Law,  Foundation in Mathematics, International foundation courses, and Life Sciences Foundation. International Pathway Courses are available as well and divided into International Pathway Courses, International Pre-Master’s Courses, and Pre-sessional English Language Courses. The university also has a number of research degrees.

Facilities and Resources

Oxford Brookes has many facilities for students to enjoy such as a library, computing rooms, a Brookes Union shop, cafes, snack kiosks, bars serving breakfast, lunch, and evening meals, state-of-the-art learning facilities, and a sports field. Sport facilities include a number of excellent gyms, Oxfordshire’s premier climbing wall, a boathouse, pitches, courts, a swimming pool, a sports bar, and more.

Oxford Brookes accommodation is not guaranteed for students starting in January and it will depend on availability. Many Oxford Brookes halls of residence are available whether in partnership halls or university-managed halls. Partnership halls include Beech House, Dorset House, and Parade Green while university-managed halls include Cheney Student Village, Clive Booth Student Village, Clive Booth Postgraduate, Crescent Hall, Friar Court, Harcourt Hill Hall, Harcourt Hill Hall N Block, Paul Kent Hall, Warneford Hall, Westminster Hall, and Westminster Studios. 

These Oxford Brookes student accommodation offer facilities like on-site teams to help and advise, Wi-Fi, contents insurance coverage, on-site laundry facilities, and shared kitchen facilities. Oxford Brookes accommodation prices will depend on whether students choose university-managed accommodation or third-party halls of residence; Cheney Student Village requires a separate £200 damage deposit.
