Why Study at London College of Communication

The college started when in 1894, St Brides Foundation Institute was established to provide specialist printing education. Over the years, the institute merged with a number of other schools and colleges with regard to its specialty in graphic art. In 1954,  the first undergraduate graphic design course in Britain was established in the college by artist and designer, Tom Eckersley. The college then moved its location to Elephant and Castle in 1962 and is officially named London College of Printing. The college then got its current name in 2004 to showcase the diversity of courses. In 2017, the college launched Screen School which combines areas like film, television, and animation with emerging ones like games design and virtual reality. 

Departments and Divisions

The college offers undergraduate, postgraduate, short courses, and Further Education in a variety of subject areas. Undergraduate courses include Certificate in Higher Education: Preparation for Design, Media and Screen, BA (Hons) Advertising, BA (Hons) Animation, BA (Hons) Contemporary Media Cultures, BA (Hons) Design for Art Direction, BA (Hons) Interaction Design Arts, BA (Hons) Graphic and Media Design, BA (Hons) Public Relations, BA (Hons) Photojournalism and Documentary Photography, BA (Hons) Virtual Reality, and many more.

Postgraduate courses include a Graduate Diploma in Design, Media and Screen, MA Animation, MA 3D Computer Animation, MA Data Visualisation, MA Design for Art Direction, MA Commercial Photography, MA Design for Social Innovation and Sustainable Futures, MA Illustration and Visual Media, MA Journalism: Social Justice Journalism, MA Media, Communications and Critical Practice, MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography (online), MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography, and more.

Short courses in LCC include Digital Marketing, Architecture, spatial and interior design, Animation, interactive, film and sound, Advertising, 3D design and product design, Creative Computing, Communication and graphic design, Business, management, and science, Journalism, PR, media and publishing, Fine art, Photography, Event Design, Service design and design thinking, and Illustration.

Finally, Further Education courses for international students at LCC include a Level 3: International Introduction to the Study of Design, Media and Screen, Certificate in Higher Education: Preparation for Design, Media and Screen, and a Certificate in Higher Education: Preparation for Design, Media and Screen Online.

Facilities and Resources

Facilities in the London College of Communication are tailored to enhance its students’ skills and experience in all areas and disciplines. Whether it’s digital reprographics, 3D printing, or letterpress, LCC has the latest technology and state-of-the-art facilities. Some of these facilities are a 3D Workshop, The Kit Room, Design Block Photography, Black Box Project Space, AV, Live Events, The Digital Space, Printing and Finishing, Printmaking, and Library Services.

There are also course-specific facilities such as an onsite newsroom, media lab and audio studios for journalism students, a multi-purpose space that supports students with: Creative Coding, Physical Computing, Projection-Mapping, Games, and Virtual Reality, and so much more!
