Why Study at Plymouth College of Art
Plymouth College of Art was established in 1856 as “Plymouth Drawing School”. It was one of the colleges that were founded by a partnership with the University of Plymouth as “Plymouth College of Art and Design”. In 2006, Plymouth College of Art and Design ended its membership of the University of Plymouth's Partner Colleges and became an independent art university providing Higher Education. However, all Plymouth College of Art's degrees were accredited by the University of Plymouth until 2007, and by the Open University until 2008. In late 2008, Plymouth College of Art and Design‘s name was changed and its current name “Plymouth College of Art” was born.
In 2013, Plymouth College of Art founded the city-centre free school that welcomed 4 to 16-year-olds to Plymouth School of Creative Arts. In 2019 the college was awarded taught degree awarding powers (TDAP) by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) granting the creative institution the authority to award and accredit its own BA (Hons) degrees and Masters awards. Autumn 2020 witnessed the first group of undergraduate and postgraduate students who graduated with an award accredited by Plymouth College of Art.
