Founded in 1839, the origins of the College of St Hild and St Bede come from the foundation of two separate teaching training colleges: The Durham Diocesan Training School for the Education of Schoolmasters (later to become Bede College) and the Durham Diocesan Female Training School (which would become Hild College).
