About Granary Studios

Located on the River Dee, Chester is a cathedral city surrounded by ancient Roman walls. The city is known for its unique Victorian architecture, which is shown in Chester Town Hall and the Grosvenor Museum. The city is home to a couple of universities, colleges, and schools, which makes it a great city for students to live and study.

Granary Studios is a student housing in Chester offering studio accommodation for students attending nearby universities. You can choose from a number of offered Studios that vary in size depending on their type: Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc. All studios come with a private en-suite bathroom, a small double bed, plenty of storage, and a study area. Studios are also fitted with their own private kitchen.

The amenities offered by this Chester student accommodation include CCTV, all-inclusive bills, Wi-Fi, an on-site residents’ team, cycle storage, and on-site laundry. The property holds regular residents’ events to help you socialise and meet new people, as well as having a number of social spaces, including a lounge and a games area. A study area is also available where you can work in a quiet and peaceful environment.

Granary Studios makes exploring the city of Chester an easy feat due to its strategic location. The Grosvenor Museum, which is a testament to the city’s Victorian architecture as well as home to the city’s natural history and a number of temporary exhibits, is located 9 minutes away on foot. The city’s mediaeval monument, Chester Cathedral, with its stunning architecture, its tower, cafe, and shop, is located a 3-minute walk away. Another nearby landmark is the Chester Castle, which is located an 11-minute walk from the property. You can spend a fun day out with friends at Escapism Chester, which is an interactive group experience located only a 4-minute walk away. The surrounding restaurant and cafe scene is lively and includes Frankies, which is 6 minutes away on foot, Marmalade, which is a 2-minute walk away, and Covino, which is also a 2-minute walk from the property. You can get your groceries and do your shopping at the nearby grocery store, Tesco, which is located 7 minutes away on foot.

Cancellation Policy

Book online until the 31st of July, without seeing the accommodation first, and we run a 72-hour 'cooling-off period, allowing you to cancel your booking within 72 hours of paying your booking fee.

Bookings made from the 1st of August for the forthcoming academic year have a 24-hour 'cooling-off period.

In Case of Cancellation

-  The STudent must login to their student portal, complete their to do list and populate bank details. As the refund is only deposited back through a bank transfer not credited to the card.

-  The student MUST email the property directly to request the cancellation in writing.

I would not recommend this accommodation to any students who consider taking a future residency here. Their handling of the covid-19 pandemic, tenant concerns, health & safety and personal information has been nothing but unprofessional, dangerous and illegal. During the lockdown, an email was sent to all tenants stating contractors would enter the building to carry out checks. The email also said “ They will enter empty rooms first however from tomorrow morning they will need access to your rooms, this is just to have a quick look at the walls etc and will only take five minutes”. This is against the government’s guidelines and contradicts a previous email sent out by the accommodation that stated “Under NO circumstances should any one who does not live at Granary Studios be entering the building. This is to keep us all safe and well during this time”. The contractors on site were not wearing appropriate PPE nor was it offered to residents during these checks. This situation caused great concern for a multitude of residence. A number of tenants have pre-existing medical conditions that are known to staff due to their emergency evacuation procedures. It is incredibly dangerous to suggest contractors should enter our personal space. According to sources, the accommodation were carrying out these checks in order to claim free repairs on their insurance. It’s understood this insurance runs out soon and so they were trying to cash in to save money. By doing this, they are putting residence health and safety at risk and prioritising profit over well-being. Prioritising profit over health and safety directly contradicts the Health Safety and Welfare Act 1974 that further states all reasonably practical measures that can be taken to improve health and safety should be taken. Another issue of concern amongst tenants is the unprofessional emails we have received. They have been a reoccurring issue. It is sent in a passive-aggressive tone with disjunctive language that is not appropriate to be used when approaching tenants. The language used in these emails is unaccommodating to those that remain in the building. Tenants that may have no involvement with the issues raised have become apprehensive about living in this building that no longer feels like a ‘home’ as it was advertised to become. Some tenants feel as though it has been false advertising due to lack of conviviality. This has had a rippling effect on the mindset of tenants who feel they cannot raise issues or concerns with the office staff, which they once felt as though they could without trepidation. The significant amount of emails do not comfort but alarm residents of COVID-19 as they offer no empathy to those who are facing this alone. All of this information has been passed onto Fresh Student Living head office with the hope something can be done about these continuous issues. As of 9th April 2020, residence have had no contact from Fresh Student Living.
