Why Study at Brunel University London
Brunel University London is a public research university in London, England, located in the Uxbridge neighbourhood. It was named after Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel when it was founded in 1966. Brunel College of Advanced Technology received a royal charter in June 1966 and became Brunel University. The institution is frequently referred to as a plate glass university in the United Kingdom.
Brunel has been a source of contention because of its market-driven and politically conservative approach to higher education. Following the University of Oxford's rejection to give Margaret Thatcher an honorary degree in 1996, there was an outcry from employees and students, and the ceremony had to be placed in the House of Lords rather than on campus.
The departments of Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Engineering were all closed in the late 1990s, and in 2004, then-Vice-Chancellor Steven Schwartz announced a reorganisation of the university's faculties and departments into schools, as well as the closure of the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences. In 2006, Christopher Jenks, a sociologist, became the new Vice-Chancellor. Julia Buckingham, a former Vice-Chancellor of Imperial College London, took over as Vice-Chancellor at Brunel in 2012.
Brunel University licensed Creative Barcode, an automated idea-sharing platform that preserves early-stage concept ownership, in June 2011. A supplementary charter issued on 16 July 2014 changed the name to Brunel University London.
