Why Study at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge
Tracing its origins back to 1869, Fitzwilliam College Cambridge began as a non-collegiate institution, with the aim to provide Cambridge education to undergraduates who were unable to afford membership of a college. The institution was originally based at Fitzwilliam Hall (which was later renamed Fitzwilliam House), a house located opposite the Fitzwilliam Museum in southwest Cambridge.
In 1963, The institution moved into new buildings on its present Huntingdon Road site; it received its Royal Charter by Queen-in-Council in 1966, becoming Fitzwilliam College.
The college is built on the grounds of The Grove, a regency house that has become part of the college now. The distinctive hall building and the first student residences, designed by Sir Denys Lasdun, were completed in 1966.
