Payment Terms
How much do I need to pay to confirm my booking?
To confirm your booking, you must pay a holding deposit equal to one week’s accommodation charge once availability is confirmed.
When do I pay my first rent payment?
On arrival, you must pay your first week’s accommodation charge in order to check in and gain access to your room.
How are payments made?
LHA London does not accept cash payments. Payment can only be made by:
Debit card
Credit card
Do I need to provide my card details?
Yes. When you make your first payment, you agree that:
LHA will store your card details in its secure billing system
Future payments will be taken automatically via recurring card payments
How often are rent payments taken?
Payments are taken weekly in advance.
Each payment covers one week of accommodation
A “week” runs from Saturday 10:00 am to the following Saturday 9:59 am
When are weekly payments taken?
Recurring payments are automatically charged:
Every Friday
Around 3:00 am
When the weekly charge becomes due
Is rent paid in advance or arrears?
Rent is paid in advance for each week of accommodation.
What happens if I don’t pay on time?
If payment is not made within 14 days of the due date, LHA may:
Charge interest at an annual rate of 3%, applied daily to the unpaid amount
Can payment amounts change?
Yes. The price may change if:
VAT rates change (you will be charged the updated VAT rate)
What is included in the price I pay?
The price shown includes:
Rent for accommodation
VAT (unless changed later under tax adjustments)
What happens if I don’t check in after paying?
If you do not check in on your booking start date:
Your booking is cancelled
Your holding deposit is lost
Is the deposit separate from rent?
Yes. There are two stages:
Holding deposit (before arrival)
Equivalent to one week’s rent
Licence deposit (after check-in)
The holding deposit becomes a licence deposit once you move in
What happens to my deposit when I leave?
After departure:
The licence deposit is refunded within 10 working days
But deductions may be made for:
Damage or loss
Unpaid rent or charges
Early departure charges under notice rules
If deductions exceed the deposit, you must pay the difference within 14 days of being asked.
What happens if I leave within 14 nights?
If you leave within 14 nights of check-in:
You lose your licence deposit
Any prepaid rent is not refunded (unless specific prepaid arrangements apply)
Deductions for damage may still apply
Do I have to pay if I leave early?
Yes. Depending on timing:
- If you leave with more than 1 week remaining in your booking and do not provide the required 1 week's written notice (or payment in lieu of notice), you will still be charged for 1 week's accommodation.
- If less than 1 week remains in your booking, you must pay for the full remaining period of your booked stay, even if you leave early.
Can I be charged after leaving?
Yes. You may be required to pay:
Unpaid balances
Damage charges
Early departure charges (if notice rules are not followed)
Cancellation Policy
Can I cancel my booking before moving in?
Once LHA London has accepted your booking and the holding deposit is paid, a contract is formed. If LHA cannot accept your booking (e.g. no availability), they will cancel it and no charge will be made.
If you simply do not check in on your arrival date, your booking will be cancelled and you will lose your holding deposit.
What happens if I do not check in on my arrival date?
If you fail to check in on the booked arrival date:
Your booking will be cancelled
Your holding deposit will be retained by LHA
Can I leave the accommodation early after moving in?
Yes, but only under strict notice rules:
If more than 1 week remains in your booking:
You may end the agreement early if you give:
At least 1 week’s written notice, OR
Pay 1 week’s accommodation charge in lieu of notice
If you do not provide the required notice or payment in lieu, you will still be charged for 1 week of accommodation, even if you leave early.
If less than 1 week remains in your booking:
You cannot cancel early, and you must pay for the full remaining period of your booking, even if you leave before the end date.
Do I get a refund if I leave early?
Any refund depends on your deposit and charges:
The licence deposit is refunded within 10 working days after departure
However, LHA may deduct:
Damage or loss caused by you
Any unpaid charges
Any amounts owed under early departure rules (including notice period charges)
If deductions exceed the deposit amount, you must pay the remaining balance within 14 days of being asked.
What happens if I leave within the first 14 nights?
If you vacate the accommodation within 14 nights of checking in:
You lose your licence deposit
Any prepaid accommodation charges are not refunded
(Unless specific prepaid arrangements apply as stated in the contract)
Can I cancel or end the contract if LHA changes terms or prices?
Yes. If LHA:
Changes the contract terms, or
Increases prices (after you have been in residence more than 2 weeks)
You may end the agreement by giving:
1 week’s written notice
You will still be required to pay:
Charges up to your departure date
Any outstanding arrears or damage costs
Can LHA terminate my booking early?
Yes. LHA may end your contract in the following ways:
With notice:
At least 1 week’s written notice, with no reason required
Immediately (without notice), if:
You breach the agreement or resident code of conduct
You stop meeting eligibility criteria
You fail to provide required information (including ID or right-to-reside checks)
You reach the maximum 4-year stay limit
Your behaviour is considered unsatisfactory by LHA
What happens financially if LHA ends the contract?
If termination is due to breach:
You may receive a refund for any unused period already paid
LHA may deduct or charge reasonable compensation for losses caused by your breach
What is the required notice period for leaving?
The standard minimum notice requirement is:
1 week written notice, if early termination is allowed under the contract conditions
Otherwise:
You remain liable for the booking period already agreed.
When must I leave the accommodation?
You must leave by 10:00 am on the final day of your booking
You must remove all belongings
Any items left behind may be stored or disposed of after set time periods (as per contract terms)
