Just 30 minutes away from Kuala Lumpur city centre, is Petaling Jaya. Established in the 1950s with only 2.12 square kilometres, Petaling Jaya has become one of the most important cities in Malaysia, thanks to the vast development by the government.
As the first planned town in Malaysia, Petaling Jaya, also famously known as PJ by the locals, had achieved a glorious success, fitting its name ‘JAYA' (Success). It is constantly busy with activities as well as proud of its achievements. Petaling Jaya has become a well-known industrial area in this country and is developing in its own way.
With the fast pace of expansion in the public transport system in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is now connected to and accessible from Petaling Jaya. Besides the convenience of public transport it has, Petaling Jaya is definitely a heaven for shopaholics and foodies.

Petaling Jaya is a very good place to live. It’s not too difficult to see why PJ is consistently the area with the highest demand to buy properties and live in Malaysia. This thriving town seems to be the perfect blend of commercial, industrial, residential, and entertainment hubs. Without being excessively metropolitan, Petaling Jaya offers families a well-connected life that’s always in the vicinity of shopping complexes, commercial districts, and reputable schools.
Petaling Jaya is reasonably safe. However, as in any other place in the world, you will need to be careful with your belongings. Make sure to put handbags away from open car windows and where motorbikes can easily snatch your handbags on roadsides and try to have at least one companion to accompany you around, even for males as criminal cases have been on increase during late hours.
From streetside food to ancient historical caves and bird parks to heritage sites, there is a lot to explore in Petaling Jaya. You will get nothing but the best here and you will be taken in by the charm of the place. The following are some of the most interesting places to visit in Petaling Jaya Malaysia and the ones that you shouldn’t be missing out on.
Featuring a design inspired by ancient Egypt, Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall houses hundreds of stores selling fashion, electronics, jewellery, toys, and anything else you might need or want during or after your trip. Take a break from shopping to catch a movie at the theatre, play games at the arcade, practise your skills at the archery range or sing karaoke. Ease your hunger at any of the mall's restaurants, cafes, and snack outlets.
Sunway Lagoon has over 80 attractions that are spread across 36 hectares (88 acres) for you to enjoy. Opened in 1997, the theme park was greatly expanded in 2008 to include an interactive wildlife park and a huge man-made surfing beach. The "scare" area features audio-visual effects and live actors creating a spooky atmosphere appropriate for all ages. With games of skill and puzzles along with traditional roller-coasters and water rides, you'll find something to get your mind and heart racing.
The world's once tallest buildings, Petronas Twin Towers now claim the spot of the world's tallest twin buildings with their towering height of 452 m. Beautifully designed with Islamic-influenced architecture, Petronas Twin Towers primarily hold the headquarters of Petronas Company and corporates like Barclays, Boomerang, IBM, McKinsey & Co., Accenture, and Reuters. The 88-storey buildings are connected by a double-decker sky bridge between the 41st and 42nd levels. There, you will find Science Museum, Petroleum Museum, Petronas Concert Hall, and other attractions that interest global travellers and tourists in Petronas Towers. Also, there are several things to do, and the most amazing one is looking over the whole city from the Petronas Towers Observation Deck, which is set on the 86th level. The double-decked sky bridge offers mesmerising views, along with the thrill of walking between two towers. The concert hall hosts some of the world's most respected musical talents and orchestras.
Finally, Batu Caves are one of the most amazing places to visit in Petaling Jaya. These illustrious limestone caves hold three large and several other small temples inside them. Touted to be among the city’s most frequented tourist places, these caves are awe-inspiring in their own right, with some of them dating back to over 400 million years. The three major caves, Cathedral Cave, Art Gallery Cave, and Museum Cave, house several Hindu shrines and depictions of Hindu mythology. Minimally decorated with paintings and statues pertaining to the mythology, these caves hold a special place for the Hindu community. The caves fan-following extends to other communities too. Many non-Hindu tourists and devotees flock to these limestone giants to witness the marvel. There have been many documentaries that showcase the surreal beauty of the caves and also the amazing rituals performed there.
Rapid KL and Metrobus are the main bus service operators in Petaling Jaya. Although the bus service is not exactly up to first-world standards, it has improved tremendously in recent years. The network can be a little complicated but Rapid KL provides information on its routes on its website. All Metrobus buses with destinations in PJ originate from Kuala Lumpur. They serve most areas in PJ, especially Section 14, Kota Damansara, and southern PJ.
Light Rail Transit paths to Kelana Jaya (before known as PUTRA-LRT) connect central Kuala Lumpur to Petaling Jaya and is a good way to avoid road traffic between these two destinations, especially during peak hours. The electric railway KTM Commuters also stops in several places in PJ. The stations are Jalan Templer, Kampung Datuk Harun, Seri Setia and Setia Jaya which is in the Sentul-Pelabuhan Klang line.
Taxi services are also available in Petaling Jaya. All metered taxis that operate in Kuala Lumpur also serve PJ.
Not only does Casita offer student accommodation in Petaling Jaya, but we also have student accommodation options in other Malaysian cities. These include Kuala Lumpur and Subang Jaya.
