Why Study at Georgia Southern University?

Georgia Southern University is a public research university in the U.S. state of Georgia. The main campus is in Statesboro, with additional campuses in Savannah and Hinesville. The university was founded in 1906 as a land grant college and is considered the fifth-largest institution in Georgia. The university was first known as the First District Agricultural and Mechanical School. In 1924, the name was changed to Georgia Normal School when the school’s mission was directed toward training teachers. In 1929, the school became the South Georgia Teachers College and in 1939, Georgia Teachers College. The school was renamed Georgia Southern College in 1959 as its curriculum had expanded beyond teacher training. The university kept evolving until it became Georgia Southern University in 1990.

Students at Georgia Southern University enjoy their time there because of the university’s nationally accredited academic programs that include a heavy dose of real-world work so its graduates are ready from the day they graduate. Since 1906, the University’s hallmark has been a culture of engagement that bridges theory with practice, extends the learning environment beyond the classroom, and promotes student growth and life success. Faculty, staff members, and students embrace the core values of collaboration, engagement, integrity, openness, welcomeness, and sustainability. The university adds so much experience to the students that they can add it to their portfolios as they are getting prepared for work and life after graduation.

Georgia Southern University’s acceptance rate is around 80%, which is very fair. The university expects the students to meet their GPA requirements, but still, they’re more flexible than other schools, with nearly 26,000 students. The university is ranked among the top universities in the United States and is well-known for its high-quality education. Students, both local and international, are found at Georgia Southern University.
