Eastern Connecticut State University is a public university that was established in 1889. It is the third-oldest public university in the state and the second-oldest campus in the Connecticut State University System. Eastern students effectively juggle a demanding academic load, a range of extracurricular activities, and an exciting social life with 38 majors, 59 minors, and more than 100 organisations and athletic teams. Numerous student services and facilities are provided by Eastern Connecticut State University, including the following:
South Campus, North Campus, and the University Sports Complex are the three sections of the university's campus. The university's historic South Campus is home to facilities, including Burr Hall, which served as the institution's first dorm. The library, the fine arts teaching centre, and the student centre are located on the North Campus, which is the more contemporary area of the university.
The Institute for Sustainable Energy, which was established in 2001, focuses on sustainable energy education and acts as a resource for knowledge about sustainable energy, as well as providing support for developing sustainable energy policies and putting sustainable energy solutions into practice.
More than 80 student groups, including clubs for athletics, politics, culture, the arts, and communication, are available for students to join at Eastern. Each residence hall has a student council that organises activities and outings for the residents, and the Student Government Association serves as the conduit between the student body and the university administration.
Eastern Connecticut State University’s athletics are an important part of the university. The university is a member of the Little East Conference, the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and NCAA Division III.
Baseball, basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, and indoor and outdoor track and field are among the men's varsity sports. Basketball, cross country, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, indoor and outdoor track and field, and volleyball are among the varsity sports for women.
Men's and women's tennis leagues, co-ed indoor and outdoor soccer, co-ed dodgeball, men's and women's flag football, co-ed volleyball, co-ed softball, an ultimate frisbee league, men's and women's basketball leagues, co-ed floor hockey, a whiffle ball tournament, and golf are just a few of the intramural sports available. Competitive cheerleading, fencing, football, ice hockey, and rugby are examples of club sports.
87% of first-year students and 60% of all undergraduates enrolled full-time live in the university's dormitories. First-year halls and upperclassman halls are located separately on campus.
Upperclassman halls are open to any student who is a sophomore or higher. There are two sets of apartments, five upperclassman halls, and six first-year halls.
