Tips to Spend a Fun Halloween Online

Tips to Spend a Fun Halloween Online

27 October, 2020

Halloween, with its spooky designs and scary decorations, is approaching! Although we are not able to physically meet easily this year, you can still gather with your family and friends online and have fun. This year's Halloween party will look a little different. You may call it “Quarantine-O-Ween” or “Online Halloween Party”. Here are some tips to make your Halloween party this year as fun and engaging as you can.

1. Virtual Invitations

Design and create your own spooky Halloween invitations using Canva or other graphic design platforms. Pick a scary layout or upload your own scary photos, such as a haunted house, a full moon, a witch, a jack-o-lantern or a spider web. Edit text in your invitation and add filters before saving and sharing it. Invite your guests to a video call through one of the following video conference apps and have a great time!

2. Video Conference Apps

Held on Zoom, this year’s Halloween is called “Zoom Halloween Party”. Skype and WebEx are other video conferencing apps you can invite your guests through and have a virtual party on. To attend this virtual party in Halloween style, change your Zoom background to a scary one like a haunted house, a pumpkin patch, a foggy forest, a full moon, etc. To have more fun, turn it into a competition. The winner is the one who will have the most creative and spooky background scene! To know how to change your Zoom background, visit this link.

3. Halloween Costumes

Encourage your guests to join the online party in a costume. You can suggest ideas like Disney characters, movie monsters, guests from the future, space guests or much more. Since competitions add more excitement to any event, tell your guests that there will be three winners; the one with the most creative costume, the one with the funniest costume and the one with the scariest costume. You can send the winners virtual gifts or mail them real gifts!

4. Halloween Desserts

We all, kids and adults, have a craving for sweets. There is no Halloween without them. Order sweet boxes and mail them to your guests or have fun baking together over Zoom. If you are a good cook, you can make some of the Halloween desserts yourself and mail them to your guests! They will love the DIY dessert because it is made especially for them. Here are some recipes to make at home:

  1. Marshmallow Ghost Cupcakes
  2. Chocolate-covered Strawberry Ghosts
  3. Spooky Ghost Cookies

5. Scary Stories

To liven up your guests during this online party, recite a scary story in front of a frightening Zoom background. For some scary suggestions, check out Creepy Pasta or Reddit Short Scary Stories. If your guests are creative, make an exciting activity and engage them with you. You -as a team- can write a story, sentence by sentence, in the chat and see who will come up with the craziest and scariest idea. You can also have fun by hosting a competition and choosing the one who will write the most creative and frightening story. Give your guests the theme or the first line and let their imagination run wild!

6. Halloween Activities and Games

In order to entertain your guests, virtual activities are a good choice. Decorating a pumpkin, carving a jack-o-lantern or decorating a face mask are enjoyable activities, especially when you are in competition with others to create the best design. Mail your team the material of the activity you choose and show your creativity!
