Why Study at the Singapore Polytechnic?
Singapore Polytechnic (SP) is a post-secondary education institution and a statutory board under the purview of the Ministry of Education in Singapore. Established in 1954, the institution is considered the oldest polytechnic in the city. Singapore Polytechnic has been awarded the Singapore Quality Class, as well as the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. Also, it has won the Singapore Public Service Award for Organisational Excellence and the People Developer and Family Friendly Awards. SP uses innovative teaching methods and seeks to be proactive in the sense of creatively extending knowledge and producing innovative practices. Additionally, several of SP’s lecturers have been awarded the President's Award for Teachers (PAT) in 2017, 2018 and 2020.
Departments and Divisions
SP has 10 academic schools. These schools are Architecture and the Built Environment, Business, Computing, Chemical & Life Sciences, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Life Skills & Communication, Mathematics and Science, Media, Arts & Design, Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, and Singapore Maritime Academy. At these schools, the institute offers 30 full-time diplomas, three common entry programmes, a polytechnic foundation programme, and 492 set programmes. Some of the full-time diploma programmes are in the fields of applied sciences, built environment, business management, engineering, health sciences, information and digital technologies, maritime studies, and media and design.
Facilities and Resources
SP’s campus has some of the best facilities. The campus is equipped with industry-relevant facilities which give students valuable hands-on experience, including an environmental, geomatic and geotechnical lab, an event space, a facilities management lab, an architectural design studio, and a landscape design studio. Also, each one of the formerly mentioned schools of SP has several specialised labs, studios, training centres, classrooms, and more. As for the sports facilities, there are basketball courts, a swimming pool, a multi-purpose court, a gym, badminton courts, squash courts, and tennis courts. You can also find several food courts and an on-campus library.
