About The Recording Rooms

The Recording Rooms is a student housing in Birmingham that offers Studio rooms in four styles; club, standard, plus, and deluxe. All these self-contained studios feature big comfy beds, wardrobes, workspaces, and ample storage. They also come with private bathrooms, private kitchens, and lounge areas.

The property also offers a penthouse for students who prefer more space. There are also Cluster En-suites that feature everything found in studio rooms with the exclusion of the private kitchens. This makes en-suite rooms more practical and affordable.

The Recording Rooms offers high-speed Wi-fi, free contents insurance, and on-site maintenance. It houses a common room with TVs, where you can meet and socialise with your flatmates. Also, it has a quiet study room where you can study your lessons and a free on-site gym that’s accessible 24/7. You will also find bike storage, a laundry room, and an outdoor area where you can enjoy the warmth of the sun.

Birmingham is a major city in England’s West Midlands region, with multiple Industrial Revolution-era landmarks that speak to its 18th-century history as a manufacturing powerhouse. It’s also home to a network of canals, many of which radiate from Sherborne Wharf and are now lined with trendy cafes and restaurants. Birmingham is known as the founding city for the recognition of Veterans Day and hosts the nation’s oldest and largest Veterans Day celebration.

The Recording Rooms is situated in a dynamic location that puts everything you might need within your reach. There are a Tesco Express and Sainsbury’s Local right around the corners, while green spaces such as Elmdon Road Cricket Ground and Selly Park are just a few minutes away. You can visit the Lapworth Museum of Geology for all the rock, fossil, gem, and mineral collections you like, or admire the beauty of the historical landmark, Old Joe. The Barber Institute of Fine Arts is also nearby if you’re more into art. In the morning, grab your breakfast at Breakfast & Dessert Corner @ Rooster House (Halal). When it’s time for dinner, get the best chicken at Pepe's Piri Piri, or go to Cafe 55 for Pan-Asian cuisine.

Cancellation Policy

Can I cancel my booking?

If you accept an offer of accommodation online or by signing a Tenancy Agreement, and then decide you wish to cancel outside of the Initial Cancellation Period, the following applies:

  • You remain liable for the weekly rent (for each and every week or part week) until you are able to find another tenant that is acceptable to Homes for Students (it is your responsibility to find another tenant) and we are able to re-let the room
  • If we are able to re-let the room we will release you from the agreement upon payment of a £250 release fee which we will recover by retaining your deposit (which will not, therefore, be returned). If you have paid a different amount as a deposit (such as £150) then this is the amount that will be retained.

1st Year Applicants Only

If you are a prospective student and your offer of a place at your preferred University/Higher Education Institution is withdrawn by the University/Higher Education Institution, you may be eligible to be released from this agreement.

To apply to be released from the agreement you will need to provide:

  • Written confirmation that you wish to cancel your reservation.
  • Supporting evidence from the University or UCAS.

Special conditions

You can terminate your tenancy agreement if you have an existing medical condition and this is recorded on your application prior to a room offer being made. We will require medical proof with your application and you will be liable for a minimum of 4 weeks’ rent or to the end of the current rent period, whichever is longer.

I've just moved out of the Recording Rooms after 3 years and I'm actually so sad to go! The management team have been SO friendly and helpful. If ever I have had a maintenance problem or something they have responded straight away. Water/wifi/electricity bills and a TV in my room were all included which saved so much stress and money, and living in an ensuite studio meant I always had my own space to relax and study. The location is INCREDIBLE because it is directly opposite the uni of Birmingham so my room had lovely views of campus and I felt really safe walking home from uni at night. Its also on the edge of Selly Oak so I could easily walk to friends' houses too. The residents' gym is fantastic and has previously saved me buying an expensive membership elsewhere as it has everything I would need and more (including treadmill, bikes, free weights and a cable machine!). Really nice communal areas and cinema room too!!

Hi everyone, I have lived in the Recording Rooms for a year. I had quite a good time in my first year living here. However, things changed drastically and the behaviour of the staff at the Recording Rooms disappointed me a lot. I have no where to approach to since the staff refused to respond to my requests. Therefore, I decided to talk about this matter here. The case started during the Covid-19 pandemic. As an international student, I had to go back to my home country mandatorily such that I could continue my studies safely. At this point, I had left my items in my room and I had managed to go back to the Recording Rooms before my contract ends (my contract ends in September). Unfortunately, due to the seriousness of the pandemic, I sought for the Recording Rooms staff if they could help with my concern. I asked them through email: “Do you provide any kinds of service that would help me to donate my items?” Afterwards, I received a response, which says “Once you have decided, we will kindly assist you”. To make it clear, I had never decided to make the staff to arrange my items. After a few weeks, I decided to go back to the UK and arrange the items by myself. However, the staff responded to me that they thought I wished to donate my items and they took my items to be donated to the charity. I was outraged at this point. In short, my room was then cleared and most of my items were packed in bags without my consent before my tenant contract ends. Frustratedly, after I have packed my items at my room, I found out that some of my items are missing: a rice cooker, a pink speaker, black shoes and chopsticks. I tried to contact the staff again but the staff refused to respond to me since they think my behaviour is inappropriate. To be honest, when a person find out his/her things are taken away without any notice, how would a person be still in a kind tone? Throughout the arrangements, the staff only picked up my phone once after more than 10 calls from me, and what I got was a disrespectful manner from a woman staff. Even I talked to them through emails, they did not care about the trouble at all! All in all, the staff in the Recording Rooms are in an extremely irresponsible manner at handing services for a tenant. After I packed my items at my room, I still couldn’t find the missing items - a rice cooker, a pink speaker, black shoes and chopsticks. I could not get any response from the staff at the Recording Rooms and I feel so helpless now. I hope anyone who can see this post can be aware of the behaviour of the staff at the Recording Rooms. Even the covid pandemic may be an excuse, such behaviour could never be justified!

A really lovely place to live, Super friendly, helpful and kind staff/ team/management on site . Very lovely atmosphere and super close to the university (like literally a two minute walk to the gate next to the starbucks). It is also in close proximity to a tesco, sainsbury , pharmacy and other places to eat. However, be aware that there is no actual oven in a studio and just a microwave. But other than that a very good place to live especially as a student ( both international and domestic)
