It is not luxury accommodation, but for the price I think it is a decent option and I would happily live there again.

The rooms are a good size, with plenty of storage, a decent-sized bed and a very good desk and study area. The lighting and heating were also good, and we never had any problems with the heating during our time there. The main downside was the soundproofing, as you could hear neighbours when they were being particularly loud. We also had an issue with our fridge/freezer, which was eventually replaced, although it did take some time. Wi-Fi was also an issue in our particular flat.

The kitchen was fairly average, which is what I would expect at this price point. We shared between five people and there was a good amount of cupboard space, although the appliances were nothing special. Cleaners came every two weeks to clean the kitchen and bathrooms. The laundry facilities were limited, with only two washing machines and two dryers, but this was rarely a problem.

One of the biggest positives is the location. It is right next to the city centre, which is extremely convenient as a student. The accommodation also felt secure, and there was bike storage available. There aren't really many facilities or communal spaces outside of the flats, but again, I wouldn't expect much more given the price.

The office staff were probably the best part of the accommodation. Hang and Esther were brilliant throughout our two years. They listened to our concerns and, where possible, genuinely tried to resolve them. I do think it would be better if the office was open at weekends, as this was a significant drawback, although we managed to work around it.

They were also flexible with the contracts, open to negotiating the tenancy length, start date/end date so we were able to get a tenancy that suited us, which is likely what initially made us choose here over other accommodations.

Overall, I think some of the reviews make York House sound worse than it actually is. It is fairly basic and there are definitely things that could be improved, but it is affordable, well located and the staff are genuinely helpful. We booked as a group which definitely made the experience much better. If you're looking for a reasonably priced place close to the city centre and don't expect luxury, I would recommend it.
York House is a student accommodation in Nottingham that offers en-suite rooms and studios.
