York is a city in North Yorkshire, famous for its deep history, dating all the way back to Roman and Viking times. The city centre is quite compact, making it easy to get around on foot. Its most recognisable landmark is the magnificent York Minster, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Northern Europe. The city walls themselves are the most complete medieval walls in England, offering a great walk with views.

For students, York has a strong community thanks to its two respected universities. The narrow, cobbled streets, like the historic Shambles, are full of unique shops, cafes, and independent places to eat. Key cultural spots include the JORVIK Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum. York offers a blend of ancient architecture and a dynamic student life.
