Dundee is a coastal city on the Firth of Tay estuary in eastern Scotland. It has a solid claim to being Scotland’s cultural centre. The city became known for the production of the long, shiny vegetable fibre called jute. Often used to create twine or rope, so much of it was being produced that the city was briefly nicknamed “jutepolis” until the trade shifted to India in the late 1800s. Dundee is also home to a couple of top-ranked universities that offer quality education to local and international students.
